I am one of those pesky supervisors that considers accepting payment for clinical supervision to be the beginning of a slippery slope. If someone is anticipating endorsement for licensure from me, also accepting money from that individual establishes a dual relationship. I set my supervision rate below what others may be charging for one very important reason: if a supervisee does not meet the metrics they agreed to at the beginning of their supervision, they will not receive my endorsement.
I will not allow the perception of financial gain on my part to blur the boundaries of the professional relationship. Charging higher rates lead to ethical concerns about whether decisions are being made in the best interest of the supervisee's professional growth or the supervisor’s financial gain. You are not paying for my signature on a piece of paper. You are paying for the space to implement best practices in the field of social work and mental health and receive feedback with recommendations on how to maintain or improve your practice standards. You are paying to utilize modalities that align with the modalities I use and discuss how you can improve their implementation. You are paying for ethical supervision.
My rate does not reflect me not valuing my time or running my supervision practice from a "poverty mindset". This is a choice. I was given this benefit from my supervisor and I am paying it forward. The NASW Code of Ethics advises against dual relationships that might impair professional judgment or increase the risk of harm to clients or supervisees. To mitigate these issues, it's essential to establish clear agreements and maintain transparency about the financial aspects of supervision. Additionally, seeking supervision from sources where financial transactions do not create ethical dilemmas, such as through employer-provided supervision or peer supervision groups, can help avoid these potential conflicts.
Service Details:
Supervision sessions available via video conference but will be limited to once per month. Per Florida Rules 64B4-2.002 Common Rules Regarding Supervision, "the supervisor and intern must have in-person face-to-face contact for at least 50% of all of the interactions required in subsection (1). As such, interns must be local to Central Florida and should consider the distance for travel in order to meet this requirement of supervision.
Individual and group supervision options are available but each hour of group supervision must alternate with an hour of individual supervision and all group supervision must be conducted with all participants present in-person.
Regular sessions and scheduling flexibility can be discussed but keep in mind, the more consistent your supervision, the better you can stay on track to take your licensing exam and eventually apply for licensure.
